Seven Random Facts Meme

My old friend, Tina, at Tina's Odds and Ends, has tagged me for the Seven Random Facts meme. So here it goes:

My mother died when I was just a few weeks old, and my father was away because of the war, so I was raised by my maternal grandparents. I've always had a sense of loss, for never having known my mother, or my real father, for that matter. But my grandparents were wonderful substitute parents.

I have been blessed with two great sons and a wonderful daughter, and three beautiful granddaughters, and I'm ever thankful to have them in my life.

I dreamed of living in the country for most of my life, and finally realized my dream in 1983, when I moved to the country. I have loved living in the woods the past 24 years.

Hiking in the woods is a favorite past time, and I've had some adventures while doing it. I have gotten lost in my woods more than once, until my son Greg gifted me with a compass!

I have a wildlife pond near the house that I love. The wild creatures that live around here love it as well. But 4 years ago, when my cat, Orie, was just a half grown kitten, she ventured onto the thin ice of the pond and fell in, when the ice broke. And I fell in as well, trying to save her. It was a miracle that we both made it out alive, and didn't get pneumonia! Now, when there is ice on the pond, the cats stay in the house, no matter what!

In December of 2005, I slipped and fell in the back of my house, in some newly fallen snow and broke my hip. It was late afternoon, and the temperatures were frigid. Since I had forgotten to take my cell phone along, like I'm supposed to, I had no way of calling for help. But through the power of prayer, I made it back into the house by crawling for over an hour, and was finally able to summon help. I have recovered well from my ordeal, and am able to continue to live in my woods. Thank you, Lord!

My faith, my family, my friends, and my animals are my greatest blessings.

Thank you, Tina, for tagging me. It was fun.

Gosh so many interesting events!
I guess these have all shaped you in to the wonderful person you are today! Can't Wait to take a walk in the woods this year. Hope the weather cooperates so we can visit the big old tree on the path.

Can't wait either! The weather should be fairly nice. Hopefully, anyway. The old oak is still standing. Thank you for visiting and the nice comment.

Renie,

So many things that make you a beautiful person. I knew some of these, but didn't know that you fell through the ice rescuing the cat. You told me recently that you had broken your hip, but didn't know the circumstances.

Even after knowing you these many years, I'm still learning new things about one of my favorite friends.

Thanks for posting your comments on my meme. I am going to post some poetry for you and others. Aren't those duds cute. Griffyn could use a bib. He's 4 months old and teething.

Blessings,
Mary

Mary,

Thank you for your dear comments. Yes, I had to rescue that bad kitty, and I know my guardian angel was there to help rescue both of us!

I look forward to reading some of your poems. I remember that the ones I read a few years ago were beautiful.

I hope your adorable, Griffin wins the bib!

Take care, my friend. Thanks again for visiting.

Blessings,

Renie

Hi Renie,

What a wonderful, well-done meme! Thanks for participating. Like Mary, I knew most of these things, but I didn't know you fell in the pond rescuing a contrary kitty ;0) Thank Heavens you both made it out safely and neither of you caught pneumonia!

Thanks for sharing!

Michele

Hi Michele,

Yes, that terrible event of Orie in the frigid pond, unable to get out, was pretty scary! Animals are wonderful companions, but they can cause problems as well.

Thanks so much for visiting and the nice comment. As always, I appreciate it greatly.

Take care!

Good Afternoon Renie,
Thanks for stopping by. I enjoy your visits. Hopefully, hubby will get a better job soon. It's all up to the Good Lord. Only he knows what is in store for us. I am glad you are better since you broke your hip. Those things like that take a good while to heal. We are under a freeze watch here for tonight with a hard freeze and the low down to 28. I had to turn my heat back on this morning. So, stay warm up there. That picture of the pond is beautiful. Well, I'm doing some cooking and fixing to start some laundry so take care my friend and stay warm.

Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Karen,

Nice to read your comment. We are under a freeze warning for tonight as well. I brought in the last two of my potted plants, and picked off the last of my green tomatoes. And I guess there go the colored leaves of this fall.

Hope you're feeling much better, Karen. Thank you for visiting. Take care and God bless!

Hi Renie,
I enjoyed reading this meme. That had to be terribly painful to crawl back to the house with a broken hip.
You must have a tremendous inner strength.

Hi Renie ~~ Very interesting answers to the meme. I am so sorry you had that awful fall and crawling for an hour when your hip was broken must have been agony. Thank you for your comments and concern for John.
Take great care, my friend, Love, Merle.

Renie,

It's sad that you never knew your mother - but I'm sure that she was/is looking down on her wonderful daughter(s) and sons - thankful that her own mother was there for you..

Take care not to fall, our bones are not so strong as when we were young.

Mr. Cat is way too curious! I'm glad you were able to rescue him (and yourself) from the pond.....

I was thinking of my former cat, Wild Betsy. I'm not sure how she would have reacted if she had fell through ice and I tried to get her out but I'm pretty sure that I would have had to put a few bandages on my head.

Renie Burghardt said...

Dear Susie,

Yes, it was terribly painful, but I made it. My surgeon, Dr. Joseph told me I was a strong lady, too.

My Grandpa's motto in life was "where there is a will, there is a way." I have always followed his motto as well.

Hi Merle,

Thank you for visiting and commenting. I just came back from Third Try, and am still chuckling over your jokes.

warm regards,

Renie

Deborah,

My mother was only 19 years old when I was born, and I was her first and only child. And she was her mother's only child. My Grandma never got over losing her.

Your cat comment made me laugh. Orie (Orio) was just a kitten when she fell through the ice, and she didn't put up a fight, when I was able to grab her. But I've had cats like Wild Betsy, myself!

Thanks for the comment. I always enjoy your visits.

Well! All you had to say was very interesting. I can understand the sense of loss not knowing parents.
I raised my son alone with his mother very far away. He also has had a series of female adults in his life who have one by one left his life (through death, moving, leaving me). It must have wounded him some what and may explain why he ended up marrying his first girl friend, who he met at 15 and dated for 10 years until they married.

Yes, there is always a sence of loss, when we lose someone. Of course, I never knew my mother, so always wondered what she was like and how my life would have been different if she had lived. But it wasn't meant to be.

I'm sure your son wanted someone who would be close to him, and care about him, and hopefully, he found that someone in his wife.

Thanks so much for the visit and the nice comment, Philip. Have a great day, and week!

Thank you kindly for visiting and commenting. Guess where I'm heading now?

God bless you, too, Leann.

Renie,

You never cease to amaze me! I knew many of your random facts, but not all the details. I didn't know that you crawled for an hour to where you could call for help. I didn't know about the winter "dip" you and your cat took in your pond. You are a strong, determined woman. I admire you.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful meme!

Hugs,
Tina
