Scratching an Itch!

I have been looking over my old floppy discs that hold hundreds of photos I took with my old digital camera, a Sony, Mavica. My lap top doesn't have a floppy disc drive, so I have been on my old, slow desk top, which is acting like it's ready to give up the ghost any minute, viewing all the old photographs. Can you believe old digital cameras stored the photos on floppy's? Hmm, I wonder if that old camera would be considered a collectible now? Probably not; it's just considered obsolete!

I remember how happy I was with it, my first digital camera, lugging it with me everywhere. And today, on this chilly winter day, I found my most favorite shot of a deer, and I emailed it from my desk top to my lap top. The one you see above, of a young buck in my field, taken about 5 years ago, that I call "Scratching an Itch!" Well, that's what he was doing, scratching an itch, when I aimed and shot the picture. It came out pretty good, don't you think?

The photo reminds me of that warm summer day, on this cold wintry day, and that's a good thing. I hope you like the picture.

I also hope it's warmer where you are. I know it's warmer where Merle is!

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Good Morning Ms. Renie,
I love the picture of the deer scratching his itch. It is so neat that you was able to catch something like this. "THANK YOU" for sharing it with us. I am going to be online. "PRAISE GOD" I was able to pay the Cable & Internet Bill late yesterday afternoon. "THANK YOU" for all of your prayers for us. I appreciate it very much. I was running late in posting this morning and when I saw the radar, it looked like you may have had some Wintry Mix in your area. It could be tho that it wasn't hitting the ground either. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Good pic, Renie!

Speaking of obselete, how about the polaroid cameras!

*Floppies or Flash Drives*

I also had a lot of pics on floppy disk and had to transfer them to cd. I still use floppy disk though, I think I'm going to keep it as long as I can. It's a good quick way to store documents and stuff that you might want to refer back to but not keep permanently. Plus, some of the computers at tech still use floppy disk as everyone can't afford a flash disk (the better choice!) to transport school work from classroom to home and then back to classroom. Floppies are much less expensive than flash disks/cd's. The only problem is that the info saved on floppies will eventually deteriorate.

But even so, most instructors are now geared toward flash disks. Reg Floppies only hold 1.44 mb's and flash disks now hold up to 2 gb's - and the price is going down!

A few years ago I paid $50 for my flash disk and it's only 512 mb's. Now a 2 gb flash disk can be bought for around $20 - $30.

Flash disks are small, about the size of a cigarette lighter and can be carried in your purse. all that's needed is a USB port on any computer - you can carry your info anywhere - to class, back home, to work, or to girlfriend's house. Most people now have several USB ports on their computer - the place where you connect your camera to download pics.

Flash disks are also called Flash Drives.

lol! I think my point in all of the above mumbo is that flash drives have taken over floppies and are a good investment for those who like/or have to move things.

Renie,

I love this photo of the deer scratching an itch! What a great capture. Thank you for posting it.

I didn't realize that photos from the older digital cameras could be stored on floppies. Incredible. Technology in moving so fast, it's hard to keep up. It's ironic, the photos now are huge and yet the flash drives are small and hold tons of photos. The only problem is trying to keep up with the changes - floppies to CDs to flash drives - before each becomes obsolete. LOL

Again, I love the photo! Deer are wonderful creatures and such a joy to see. Thank you.

I hope you have a great day!
Hugs,
Tina

What a neat pic, Renie! Thanks for sharing it with us. :-)

I'm sure you were elated that beautiful day when you snapped this one!

I hope your other computer doesn't "give up the ghost" too soon so you can get your photos that's saved on there.

Have a great day!

Hi Karen,

Glad to see you are still here! Sorry I missed you for coffee, but I guess you were a little later than usual, and I left fairly early. Just got home a bit ago.

I'm glad you enjoyed the picture. And I'm even gladder that you got your Internet/cable bill paid and will be still around. I'd miss you, if you weren't. So would a lot of other folks!

We have not had any wintry mix yet, and I don't thing we'll get any this week. But there is another chance for it Monday, I think. I shouldn't say this, but we rarely get snow. It's not impossible, but it is a rare occurrence. Now ice is another matter. Hush my mouth!

Thank you for your kind words. I'll be by to visit later this evening.

Love and Hugs,

Renie

Deborah,

Yes, I remember the Polaroid camera. I still have my old one somewhere, in a box.

Well, I have a bunch of floppy's, but my old camera no longer works because the big battery in it died. I will transfer all my pictures to CD's. Or at least the ones I want to save. I could get a floppy drive for my lap top, but won't bother. I think they were handy things. Have lots of stories stored on some of them as well. Not sure if they are still good or not. But I can look on old desk top. Flash disks are great. So much storage on a small object. It's amazing. Of course, my new digital has one of those, I think. The little thingie in there where all the pictures I take are stored, that's it, isn't it? I dunno...LOL.

You are so knowledgeable on the subject! I learned a lot from reading this great information you shared. Thanks a bunch!

Hope you have a great evening.

Hi Tina,

I'm glad you enjoyed the photo. I hadn't seen it in a while, but I knew I had it on a floppy, and am glad I found it.

Yes, the old digitals stored the photos on floppy's. Hard to believe, I know. But like Deborah said, they can get corrupted and you can lose your pictures, or documents, for that matter. Have to work on transfering a lot of that stuff to CD's, soon.

Thank you for coming by. It's always a pleasure to see you here. Have a wonderful evening, my friend.

Thank you for coming by. Hope all is well with you. Have a great evening,

Hi Patty,

we got up to 41 today. But it was overcast and gloomy looking.

Yes, I was amazed to see him raise his hoof that high up, too, that's why I snapped the picture. I never saw a deer do that before, or since. It was just a lucky shot for me, I guess.

Thanks for coming by. Have a great evening!

Cold, cold here and getting colder so your wonderful photo of a warm day and a young deer was most welcome!

Deborah Wilson said...

Renie,

No, a flash disk is something entirely different. It is sold at the store as a stand alone gadget.

The next time that you are at a store like Best Buys or anywhere they sell computer accessories, ask the sales clerk to show you where they are located and check them out. They are very small and they come with a wire (like your camera) which will plug straight into your computer's USB port.

The flash disk works just like a floppy disk but it can hold a tremendous amount of files.

They are real easy to use.

Have a good evening, everyone here will most likely have a snow day tomorrow, already the schools are closing. haha

Hey.. loved your deer picture. That is a good shot.

I have an obsolete digital camera too, probably two..LOL... the one I'm using now is kinda old, but small and fits in my purse and goes everywhere with me.

My first one was an old one that a cousin had and sold to me rather cheap when digitals were more expensive.

I sure wish we could get cable out here ... its all around us but not here yet...maybe soon! I'm still on dial up and it is sooo slow. Teaches me patience!!

Deborah,

Thanks for explaining what a flash disc is. I'm gonna get me one of those. Oh, and it was snowing here for ten minutes. Big, beautiful snow flakes. But now it turned to rain.

I guess a little snow causes a big havoc in the South. LOL. Have a good evening as well.

Hey Ann,

And I don't have cable either. I'm still on dial-up, too. But will be getting DSL, not cable, soon. Cable isn't out here either. I have satellite for TV. I already signed the contract for the DSL. I can't wait. Dial-up is a pain in the tush! LOL. It usually makes me mad, not patient!

Thanks for coming by. Have a great evening.

Good Morning Ms. Renie,
I see you came to visit while I was doing my post for today. LOL. That's okay, I'm glad you stopped by. Oh my goodness, you got a bit of Snow. Lucky you. We didn't get anything but rain and it was a cold rain also. I do believe if the temperatures had been a bit colder, it would have done something. I have a picture on my today's post that I took yesterday afternoon of the Sky around here. It did look snowy yesterday afternoon, but just wasn't cold enough. Colder weather is on the way for here too. I may have to get out in it on Saturday morning. I know I do Friday night, but not sure about Saturday yet. I won't know till Friday night after the game. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,

Morning, dear Karen,

But it was all gone by this morning. And yes, a few brrr days and nights coming by Friday night. It will be mighty cold Sunday morning, going to church.

Today, I am going to Lunch and Bingo. LOL. Then my son is coming tonight for a few days. He is such a blessing to me!

Thank you for coming by this morning. Have a wonderful day today, and God bless you!
