Memorial Day Weekend!

My pink rosebush is loaded with beautiful flowers and buds, signifying the start of warmer weather. And Memorial Day Weekend signifies the start of the summer season, although summer is officially a few weeks away.

Anyone travelling this Memorial Day weekend? Or are higher gas prices keeping you closer to home? This area just rose to $3.69 a gallon! And that's low compared to some other areas of the country, especially larger cities.

We will travel all of 15 miles to the cabin on the river, for a little cookout. The river still looks too high from the recent floods, so I don't know how many boats will venture out on it. But folks will be out there grilling, picnicking, and enjoying the nice weather the forecast has promised for our are for Saturday and Sunday. Monday itself might be rainy.

As we are all enjoying the Memorial Day weekend with friends and family, we will keep in mind that Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
-Moina Michael

Have an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day weekend, everyone!

I truly love roses, Ms. Renie; I’ve grown them every placed I’ve lived—except where I am now.

May I add:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

~ Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918), Canadian Army

Mr. Nick,

That is a sad, touching poem from World War I. It always brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for adding it. Memorial Day is all about remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Blessings,

Ms. Renie,

It brings tears to my eyes, too, especially when I remember than its author was killed in the war in 1918.

You have a wonderful week-end. This year Abe and I are taking it easy and staying home. A couple of our kids are doing a cook out, but we decided to stay off the road and save our gasoline money.

Renie,

The pink roses are beautiful! Roses always bloom in time for Mother's Day, but this year mine was a little late - although my Bear Rose did bloom. This weekend, my Asian Lillie's are putting on a show - I took a picture and put them on my blog - take a look when you get a chance. I only wish they lasted longer! The day lillie's haven't bloomed yet.

Have a good time at the cabin and enjoy the Holiday..:)

Renie,

Your rosebush is beautiful. I love that type of rosebush. Grandma used to have one this color, a red one, a yellow one and a white one. Mom has a beautiful yellow climber and I want to try to propagate if from a cutting. It is very fragrant.

I do hope you have fun with your family at the cabin. We have had a lot of rain here lately but our water levels are still low. They really shouldn't be and it has me a bit baffled.

Thank you for remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice that we might live in freedom. Every soldier, past, present and future are heroes in my book.

Blessings,
Mary

Gas here is $3.67 a gallon. We haven't made any plans of going anywhere. Jon Brandon is part of the Memorial Day service here in our town remembering all those who have lost their lives. So we will be going to that. Then we are going to have a cookout here at the house for all the kids and their friends. Hope you and yours have a blessed weekend and memorial day weekend.

Our Memorial Day weekend was very nice and most enjoyable, even with the occassional thundershowers cropping up now and then, but moving out fairly quickly. Hope everyone had a nice and enjoyable weekend as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who were affected by the latest tornadic weather.

Thank you all for visiting and commenting. Take care and God bless!

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day. I visited a lot of family graves. All the flowers were beautiful. My hard ones to visit are my mom and dad's. Then my real dad who was killed in ww2 two days before my second B-day. I never really got to know him.

I love the poem too.

Love and God bless,
Glo
