The Amen! of Nature!

August's loveliest surprise!

Friday we had some lovely, light rain, and cool temperatures, and when I came home from an outing, I found the Magic Lilies blooming! Can you see the raindrops on them? Actually, I don't know the name of this flower. Everyone around here calls them magic lilies, because they appear as if by magic, and disappear the same way, leaving no trace behind. They have a long stem, but no foliage of any kind, and they have a heavenly fragrance. They are August's loveliest surprise! Anyone know their real name, or are they really magic lilies?

The meaning of Passion Flower is: Faith, religious fervor. And the color is a heavenly blue!

"The Amen! of Nature is always a flower." Oliver Wendel Holmes. Ah, yes it is!

Blue and white and lavender Amens! at Mammoth Spring State Park, in Arkansas, where I love to visit and take pictures.

After a wordy last post, I decided to show you a few of my flower pictures today. Thank you for visiting. Have a lovely Sunday, and a great week ahead, everyone.

What lovely flowers. Thanks for sharing. Have one terrific Saturday and a heavenly Sunday.

Allergies are better, but still have them. But the shot did wonders for the joints, they aren't as stiff.

The pink flowers are called Naked Ladies in CA - and are a member of the Amaryllis family. They grow the long strappy leaves in the spring - those then die back and in July or August the flowers shoot up out of the bare earth - so they appear to have no leaves - hence, Naked Ladies.

We had dozens of them when we lived in CA - and now I wish I'd brought some here to WA - they are not as prevelant here and cost a fortune to buy from the plant catalogs. I know they will grow here, just not the fad they were in CA. You'd see long driveways lined with the flowers in August - absolutely amazing.

Very nice! Beautiful flower pictures! Is the passionflower in your yard? I remember LONG ago when we brought you the fruits with seeds to plant. I miss our passion flower jungle that our old yard had.

Beautiful lilies Renie - I'm intrigued by their lack of foliage. Lovely photos of all the flowers.
Also enjoyed your delightful dolphin story immensely!

Hi Renie,
I visited your blog this morning but got distracted from commenting and had to come back. I saw a story about the Magic Lily on the internet, and it was interesting. They appear "like magic" in August from what may look like a dead plant, and can bloom until November. I don't know if that is true or not, but let us know if you find out more about it. Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Brenda

Hi Renie,

I never saw the "Naked Ladies" until we moved here to Iowa. I don't know them by any other name, because, when I asked my friends what they were called, they said: "Naked Ladies."

But I think they have other names as well. All the flowers are lovely, God's creations can't be beat.

Have a lovely week-end.

Ann

Dearest Renie

Wow! The flowers are so lovely and beautiful.
They're very unique and special creations from our Lord.

I'm so sorry that the link at my blog's footing wasn't showing just now.
The server for the Facebook could be very busy then.
It's ok now.
I manage to get an egg from there =)

Thank you so much for the alert, Renie.

Renie,

Those Magic lilies are really pretty! I'd like to get hold of some of them!

The blue Amens are pretty too - wouldn't it be nice if someone could get a rose to be a true blue?

How pretty, Renie! I've never seen the "Passion Flower" or the
"Magic Lillies". I do love flowers and I just have to be thankful for what my arid, hot & dry climate will allow me....which aren't as many gorgeous ones as you get to have!
Hope your week is filled with more beautiful flowers!

Hi Friends,

Thanks to all who have been telling me that my magic lilies are called Naked Ladies! LOL. I Googled Amaryllis and Naked Ladies and got the real scoop. They are Amaryllis, also known as Belladonna Lilies, but commonly called Naked Ladies. Now, I am not sure of this, but doesn't Bella Donna mean beautiful lady? I think it does. So they are beautiful Naked Ladies! I think some folks in the Ozarks would be shocked at that, so I will not enlighten them. Let them keep thinking of the lovely lilies as Magic Lilies. Because, they really are magic. :-)

Hugs,

Renie

Thanks for your visit, and the correction of "Guard Duty" lol. I have since corrected it. Is it the same story that is in "Freckles and Wrinkles?"

Thanks for the poetry and flower information. I wanted to let you know that I may just get some truly spectacular Sunflower field shots here very soon! I am so excited. I see that a farmer did some late planting and they may come to flower in a few weeks. They are amazing in whole fields. I will post the pics if I get a shot.

OMGOSH!!! I just saw the Sliver Boomer stuff. I am SO there. If it is ok with you, I am going to add you to my blog list. I am not a poet but I love reading it. I think the last poem I wrote was bad parody of "The Tiger" by William Blake back when the Cincinnati Bengals went to the super bowl with Boomer Esiason. Yeah, THAT long ago. LOL

Your flowers are just stunning, Renie! I have none except for the ones in my 2 porch planters, and they look like they've about had it for this year. It's been a hot summer for them this year, a very dry summer. Even with me watering them every day, it's just the same as that good ole rain water!
