SUPER TUESDAY 2008!

Today is Super Tuesday 2008, which some have dubbed "national primary day." Voters in 24 states are heading to the polls. My state is one of the states that participates in Super Tuesday, and I'm heading to the polls soon.

When I was sworn in as a new citizen of my wonderful new country, the United States of America, I finally gained full membership in American society, and got the right to vote. And by pledging allegiance and loyalty to my new country, I became an American by choice. That was many years ago. But I still remember that day; it was one of the proudest days of my life. And since that day, I have never failed to exercise my right to vote. God bless the United States of America, where free people have a say in their governement!

Exercise your right to vote today. And have a wonderful day.

Super Tuesday turned into Super Scary Tuesday night, in my region, and many of the surrounding areas. We had a tornado warning around 8 PM, and my son called to tell me to get into the basement. Of course, I did. Lots of thunder, lightening and rain came at us, but the wind never got as fierce as last week. By 9 PM, the warning had been lifted, although some thunderstorms continued for some time. By the time I got into bed, things were improving. We didn't have any damage in our area, that I know of, but many folks in surrounding areas and states didn't fare as well, and my prayers are with all those people this morning. God bless them, as they deal with the tragedy of lost lives and damaged property!

Renie,

What a great post! Our vote is a precious thing that too many folks take for granted. The good news is that this primary season has, so far, gotten record numbers of people out to vote. I hope they stay engaged. Your post certainly is an inspiration to anyone who may be thinking they won't bother.

Have a great day, my friend!
hugs,
Tina

What a lovely post, I wish all people living in America felt that way. But sad to say some don't. Those are the ones I wish could go live where they might be happiest.
I'm glad you're here.

Good Afternoon Ms. Renie,
I am just dropping by to check on you. We are now under a Tornado Watch until Midnight. I seen on the Radar that there is a Tornado Warning already up in Missouri. I do hope it's not near you. I enjoyed your post today. Since I wasn't around back then, "WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"!!!! I am proud to have you here in the United States and am very glad to call you my FRIEND. Our State is voting today also. I will go vote as soon as the girls get home from School. I didn't post again today. I may tomorrow if we have electricity. I do hope it doesn't get too bad because this kind of weather really makes me nervous and scared. Especially since my DH isn't here. He should be home around 3:00a.m. in the morning. Take care my friend and have a great evening. Stay Alert and stay Safe my friend. May God Bless You and Yours. I'm figuring KAIT8 is going to be busy later on.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Tina,

Yes, they say a record number of people are out there voting today. And that is good news!

Thank you very much for your kind words on my post. I feel pretty strongly about voting. It is a precious right indeed!

I just got home, and we're now under a tornado watch! So I will have a worrisome evening.

I hope all is well with you and yours.

Hi Karen,

I just got home a bit ago. Yes, very scary weather out there for the rest of the day and night. We are under a tornado watch as well, but not a warning at this time. It's just starting to pour out there. I'm like you, I am a bit scared, but I am praying that it will pass without any bad consequences! And I'm ready to hightail it into the basement, if I have to. I will pray that you and your daughters stay safe at your house!

Thank you for the nice comment on my post. You are so sweet and kind!

Take good care tonight, Karen. Hope we can have coffee in the morning.

Love and Blessings,

Renie

This was a great post! Kelly and I got out and voted earlier in the cold rain!! Karen went at 7:00 this morning before she went to work......

Now they say it will turn to sleet and then snow!
I am glad you are an American! My Grand father came over here from Sweden in the 1880's! I was born in Iowa with all the Swede's!!!

Hi Carolyn,

I'm glad you all got out and voted. Now we're waiting for the results.

Oh, you have Swedish roots! How interesting.

Thank you for the lovely Valentine you passed out. I have put it up on my sidebar.

And thank you for coming by and the nice comment. On your end there is sleet and snow, on mine, it's rainy and stormy and 68 degrees, with a tornado watch. We'll both have to be extra watchful tonight.

Stay safe and warm.

Love and Hugs,

Renie

Good Early Morning Ms. Renie,
I know I am here way too early, but I am still up waiting on my DH to get home and I wanted to come and check on you. It has been a bad night all around us. I have finally done a new post and told about some of the damage here in Arkansas and Tennesee. I sure hope you didn't have any damage up your way. Mt. View got hit hard as well as Highland. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Dear Karen,

I hope your DH made it home safely. Whew, what a night, huh? Pretty scary, and I'm praying for all the folks that were affected by this storm. Yes, Arkansas had some damage and loss of lives, as did other areas. My area was fortunate again! There was a tornado warning, as I said on your blog this morning, but it didn't touch down here. Lots of thunder and lightening and rain was the extent of it for us. Thank the Lord it's over for now, and it has cooled off. I'm so glad your area didn't get hit badly either, but I really feel for the areas that did.

Now that your DH is home, you can rest up some, from our scary night. Take care, my friend, and have a good day. God bless you and yours.

Big Hugs,

Renie

Renie,

I didn't see your area on the news, but I just want to be sure you got through the tornado warning okay. I was very, very happy to see your post!

I know all our thoughts and prayers are with the people in the states were hit by these devasting tornadoes.

Renie,

A wonderful post! Yes, all people should have a say in their government and I'm so glad that you are part of the American process.

I'm also glad to hear that you are ok and that the storms didn't hit your area hard, so many people didn't have it so lucky, I feel so sorry for them and their families. In my area, I awoke to thunderstorms and it is still dark, but no horrific storms.

Have a good day!

Renie Burghardt said...

Tina,

It got pretty hairy there for a while, last night, as we were under a tornado watch for a while. The suddenly, it became a tornado warning! I did go down a few steps leading to the basement, and sat there with a flaslight and cell phone. Fortunately, we did not lose power, and I heard on my weather radio when the tornado warning was cancelled. I was relieved, to say the least. I don't like going into the basement, because the steps down are quite steep, and I worry about falling and breaking my neck!

We were very fortunate, because there was severe weather all around us. I feel terribly sorry for all the folks that were affected. It was terrible.

Thanks so much for your concern, my fried. I really appreciate it.

Take care and have a nice afternoon and evening.

Grateful Hugs,

Renie

Deborah,

Thank you kindly for the nice comment. I am glad I am part of the American process as well! Glad and proud, too!

I know Georgia is one of the 24 states taking part in Super Tuesday, and I'm sure you went and voted.

You had thunderstoms last night, too? That system was pretty wide-spread, I guess. I hope our Mississippi friends are okay, like Stephanie and Laura.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great evening.

Renie, Glad you made it through Super Tuesday and Tornado Warnings on Tuesday night! We don't get to vote until May. I haven't missed a time voting since I registered many years ago. Sometimes I have picked the winner... sometimes not. The channel I was watching never stopped telling who they thought was winning. I saw the tornado news on the internet. I have found that TV news and the newspaper cannot keep up with the internet. Great Post!!

Renie Burghardt said...

Hi Ann,

I was just over visiting you! We must have crossed paths across the Internet. LOL. And I agree, the Internet is quick when it comes to the news. The TV was so wrapped up in election reporting, that the tornadoes weren't given as much coverage. They are covering it today though. I feel so sorry for all the folks affected by these tornadoes. It just makes one realize how quickly things can change!

Thanks so much for visiting. I always enjoy hearing from you. Have great night!

Dear Merle,

That's very interesting information about voting being compulsory in Australia. And people being fined if they don't vote.

Oh, and you have something for me? I'll be over soon, to find out what it is. Thank you for coming by, my friend. Have a wonderful day.

How's the weather down your way. Cold here w/snow on the ground. About 3" for us. My son live in northern Mo. and they got 8". So I guess I won't complain about ours. Could always be worse. Like all the storms and tornados.

Hi Glo,

You are right, snow is not the worst, so enjoy it. It will be spring soon!
