On The Flooding in Our Area!

The flooding in our area a few days ago affected the small town ten miles from me, but mainly the center of town, which is right on the river. The usually beautifully Current River, turned into a raging menace to anyone or anything in its path. It was quite a sight crossing the bridge to town with all that water beneath me. Of course, I forgot to take along my camera.

We were concerned about the little cabin on the river, which we enjoy so much during the warm season. It is 15 miles from where I live, and we had no idea how it fared. Finally on Friday Greg decided to go and check on it on the 4-wheeler, since he had to drive on 10 miles of back roads that were sure to be a sea of mud, or even worse.

Since I wasn't here when he left, I didn't remind him to take the digital, so the few pictures below were taken with his cellphone. The resolution on the pictures isn't the best, but they aren't too bad.
The cabin sits on a hill about 60 feet from the river. As you can see though, the river is up to it's deck!!
Water everywhere, but fortunately, the cabin itself didn't get flooded! We are thankful for that.

Greg took this shot from a neighbor cabin's deck, as one can see just how close the river came in front of the cabin. The side yard was amazingly water free!

Here is the back and the other side of the side yard. The satellite dish didn't even get wet feet!

I am having company until Saturday morning, and we may attempt to drive to the cabin tomorrow, before more rain falls on our area. It has been a wet March, and although the temperatures have been mild, the lion has been roaring!

I hope everyone is enjoying some beautiful Spring weather now.

that's an amazing amount of water.
you should post a picture before the flood with the big hill down to the water's edge.

Enjoy the day!

I don't have a digital picture on hand of the cabin before this flood. We'll have to take some this spring.

Beautiful cabin. I love little cabins in the woods. My mom & dad had a place at the lake when I was growing. It was so much fun.
We're planning to go down to a friend's place at Laurie in May.
Have a great day.

We haven't had much Spring weather around here, yet. But I am looking forward to it, as long as we don't have the dreaded tornados. Have a great week with your house guest.

Good Afternoon Ms. Renie,
"PRAISE GOD" your little cabin didn't get flooded. It did come close by the pictures tho. Greg took some good pictures with his Cell Phone. It has been a very wet month. So many lives have been affected by all of this flooding and the way they are talking, some of the rivers are continuing to rise. My DH and his Uncle were able to go up thru Hardy and West Plains when they left out on Sunday morning. He did tell me there was alot of water up that way tho. Not too far from where we live, a little community called Milligan Ridge, there is a levee near by. They had to close the road yesterday on the other side of the levee because of the water being over the road. It's happened before several times because it is lowlands and farmland. I hope you enjoy your company this week and have a good time. I also hope yall are able to go to the cabin and have a safe trip there. "THANK YOU" for stopping by and wishing me a Happy Birthday. I appreciate it very much. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Glo,

We love the cabin, and spend a lot of time on the river. Thank you for coming by. I hope you had a nice Easter.

Patty,

My son tells me Ohio is still cold and snowy, so they are enjoying their time here. We had sunshine and 70 F today, but it was windy. I just visited you and read about nice Easter gathering with your large family. Thanks so much for visiting me!

Hi Karen,

I hope you had a wonderful birthday! We drove to the cabin this afternoon and the water has receded, but the river is still mighty high, of course. Like you, I feel very sorry for all the folks that were affected by these terrible floods.

Thank you for coming by. I hope your DH is home helping you celebrate your special day.

Birthday Hugs,

Renie

Oh, Renie,
That had to be so worrisome for you wondering if your cabin was alright. My heart always goes out when I see the devastation Mother Nature can cause. I am so glad he made it there and back alright and was able to bring you some pictures to reassure you. I just hope that all this rain brings you tons of flowers.
Love to you, Barbara

Good Morning Ms. Renie,
I'm just dropping by for a quick cup of coffee this morning as I know you have company this week. I hope yall were able to make it up to your cabin yesterday and everything was okay there. They are calling for a 50 percent chance of rain for Friday here. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Renie,

That is a lot of water. I remember when I was a child that that the creek that ran through Grandpa's farm used to flood. Sometimes it flooded the flats completely, so I know what it is like. I'm sure glad your cabin wasn't affected and am praying for those who were affected.

Take care, my friend. I'm glad that you were able to get to the cabin. Loved Greg's photos.

Blessings,
Mary

Karen,

We went to the cabin yesterday and the water has receded, although the river is still roaring and high. But the flooding danger is over, thank the good Lord.

We went to Van Buren today, and enjoyed it, since it was another beautiful day. Going out again tomorrow. I've been enjoying having my older son and family here and Greg has joined us as well, but he just left.

Thank you for coming by. Hope you had a great day.

Love and Hugs,

Mary,

Thank you so much for coming by. I haven't had much time to visit this week, but will make up for it next week.

The pictures were just taken with Greg's cellphone, so they are not the greatest, but at least it shows where the water came so close to the cabin. We're all relieved it has not done any damage to it, and has now pretty well receded.

Take care, my friend. Thank you again for the comment.

Hugs,

Renie

Hi Hippochick,

We love the river and the cabin, and spend a great deal of time there in spring, summer and fall. It is a beautiful area, with much wildlife. We've even seen eagles on the river.

Thank you for visiting. Have a great week!

The floods here have now passed west and south of us. Unfortunately, I understand that it may be a few more days before all of the flooding ends. In the meantime, I continue to pray for those the high water has harmed.

Mr. Nick,

Most of the water has receded in my area, but some places are still not out of danger. I'm with you, prayers for all the people that have been affected by the floods.

Have a blessed time with your guest =)

Renie,

Luckily, the cabin was built on top of a hill - a few down and the water would have gotten it. I'm glad to see that all is good with the cabin. And the cell phone pics aren't bad at all, Greg did a good job with the photos.

Let us know how you are doing, the weather is ok here, the high is suppose to be 72 today, but it's 10:47 and it's still only 55. Brrrrrrrrr!

The cabin looks like a wonderful place to visit. I'm not fond of flooding rivers though. We have had some serious flooding here in Whatcom County. Thankfully I do not live near the rivers so flood is not a danger to my home.

Ms. Renie, I hope the flooding has ended. However, it has been raining her for 2 days and more is forecast for the morrow. I'm praying for a bit of sunshine for all of us.

Thank you for visiting. Have a great weekend!

I don't live near the river either, but we spend a lot of time at the cabin, which thankfully was spared by the floods.

Thank you for coming by, dear Bev. I appreciate it very much.

Mr. Nick,

We've had 5 beautiful, sunny days, but are back to rainy weather this morning, and for the next several days. Although this rain won't be as big of a deluge as last weeks rain, any excess water now will delay some of the receding waters, in some areas. Hopefully, it will not cause many more problems.

I hope you are doing well!

Dear Renie ~~ I am so glad your cabin didn't get flooded and I did enjoy seeing your little grand-daughter.
She looked as though she enjoyed her visit with Nana. Glad you had a nice Easter with some family. I enjoyed the break but it's always nice to get home and back with my blogging friends. Thank you so much for prayers for Vicki and Peter. I have just posted tonight, and now I am off to bed. Take care dear friend, Love, Merle.

Dear Merle,

It's good to see your smiling face again! I am glad you had a nice Easter with your cousins, and I agree, it is nice to visit a while, but there is no place like home.

Rest up, as I am as well, and I am looking forward to more inspiration and chuckles on your blog.

Love and Blessings,

Renie

Renie,

I hope the cabin survived the next bout of rain. That water sure was close. It looks like a lovely cabin.

That is quite a cell phone camera. The photos are very clear!

We had another snow storm the day before yesterday. There has been a lot of melting today. We are due for milder temps and rain two or three times during the upcoming week. There are many parts of the state on flood watch afraid the snow will melt too fast and combined with the rain, they might have flooding again as they have the last two years. We are very lucky. The worst that happens to us is a few inches of water in the cellar, nothing like the devastation in other parts of the state.

I'm hoping and praying that this dangerous weather that seems to be spreading across the country comes to a stop and soon!!

Take care, my friend, and stay dry!
hugs,
Tina

Tina,

Since this round of rain is to happen in several days, instead of all at once, like the last time, they don't think serious flooding will occur here. But since the rivers around here (and we have several rivers) are still high, the receding will be slower. We could use a break from the rain though.

I pray that there will not be serious flooding in your area!

The cabin has been spared serious damage from the floods, thank the Lord.

I am so tired of the rain though.

Greg's pictures are pretty good for a cell phone camera.

Thank you for coming by, Tina. Have a great week!

Hugs,

Renie
