After the Storm, A Golden Sky!

We have had a doozie of a storm yesterday. It began in the wee hours of the morning, when my bedroom was lit up by a bolt of lightening, followed by a boom that frightened the dogs out of their wits, and me as well! Then the sky broke open and torrents of rain pounded the roof. I got up, of course. Who can sleep with all that going on? Well, actually, cats can. They are not bothered by storms one bit.

My weather radio informed me that we were under a severe thunderstorm warning, and a tornado watch until 5 PM! And it continued storming, with torrents of rain, and high winds blew through the trees, and even knocked out our power for a short time. Thankfully, most of it took place in the daytime. Storms always seem worse at night.

Fortunately, we never did get a tornado, and the storm finally blew out of here on cue, by 5 P M.

Wild turkeys don't mind getting wet, like domestic turkeys. I guess they're just used to living with the elements. Here is a Tom turkey, strutting his stuff, in the rain! He was way up in the field, and I don't have a really good zoom on my camera, but I managed to get a shot of him from the window, anyway. Oops, I shouldn't say "shot" since Spring Turkey Season is about to start.

After ominous, dark clouds all day, the sun came out at 7:30 PM. You can see it illuminating the western sky, and my driveway, with all the puddles still showing. But it was a beautiful sight. Like in the old song, "At the end of a storm, there's a golden sky," there it was, a sign from the heavens, that all was well now, and I was thankful to the Lord for it .

And here is a picture of the setting sun illuminating the trees to the east, in my field. It was such a beautiful phenomenon, that I couldn't resist taking a picture of it. The trees almost look Fall-like, but that is waning sunshine in the tree tops, making my heart glad.
.......
I also want to mention that I have been tagged for two meme's that I will do next week. First by my friend, Glo, over at Young at Heart, and by my friend, Patti, over at Nonna's Place. And I have some awards to acknowledge as well.

This weekend, my son will be here, and we have things to do, and places to go.

Have a blessed and safe weekend, everyone!

Beautiful pictures and what a big turkey! For not having a zoom, you got a great picture of him.
Very glad the storms passed without too much trouble and that you could witness such a pretty sunset!

Renie,

What lovely photos. The turkey doesn't seem to be at all worried about the storm. That was probably an indicator that there wouldn't be a tornado. You didn't really need the zoom to be any better on the camera. I can see him perfectly.

I'm glad the storm blew herself out and that the sun lit up your world before the sun went down. Yes, storms definitely seem worse at night for some reason.

Take care, my friend.

What a splendid read, Renie! I love the photos. The one with golden treetops is amazing! The turkey is a hoot. :-) I'm glad you made it through the storm safely. It got pretty wild here too but we didn't lose our power. Mom went to town and the park is under water again but it hasn't made it to the police station/Freds yet. Hopefully it will dry up sometime soon, eh?

Thanks for another great post. It's always such a pleasure to stop by and find such lovely photos and brilliant words. :-)

Enjoy your weekend as well!

Smiles & Blessings,
Michele

Very nice photos, turkey looks quite colorful. We had some storming going on last night as well. We're dog sitting our daughter's dog, and he hates storms. So I was up half the night with him. finally turned on a light, I guess he couldn't see the lightning, and I was able to get back to sleep around 3:45am. Also since he's going deaf, he didn't hear the thunder. Have a wonderful week-end.

Mary,

Perhaps you are right. The turkey strutting around in the rain wasn't a bit frightened, so maybe he knew it wouldn't get so bad.

Thank you for the visit and nice comment. We just got home, so I'm late visiting. But I'll be by soon. Have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Hi Michele,

Yes, we found out there was flooding again in town. But as you say, not as bad as two weeks ago. E and S is still being worked on from the last flood, and they may have gotten flooded again. But we could go up by Sonics this time, to Eileen's house, without rerouting to 160. I hope this is the last flooding event for the area for some time to come. Double whammie's are not so good.

Thank you for the sweet comment, my young friend. I hope all is well with you and yours!

Always fondly,

Renie

Hi Patty,

Oh, were you getting storms, too? I don't believe Willowick was, as my daughter didn't say anything.

Most dogs are scared of storms. My two girls get under my chair, and under my feet, when it storms! I finally opened the closet door in the hall, and they went in there. I was prepared to hightail it to the basement, should a tornado warning be announced, but it didn't happen. Thank goodness!

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, especially of Tom turkey. He was out there again this afternoon. With a harem of 20 females, he strutts around a lot. LOL.

Thank you for coming by, my friend. Have a great weekend!

Beautiful pictures! We got a lot of rain and wind but made it o.k. The wind hit here in the middle of the night. I live in a mobile home and it scared me awake. I thought about you when i saw on the t.v. that it was heading your way. Hope you have a great week end with your son.

I am not a storm lover either and especially not an electrical storm. We don't have tornados here but have had some strong winds in the past that uproot trees and take the roof's off buildings, etc.
I don't mind a hard rain and a little wind but more than that makes me apprehensive. I'm glad you didn't have a tornado and I hope your driveway dries out fast so you can get in and out without any trouble.
That wild turkey is really pretty. I think he needs to go into hiding before the shooting begins.
I love pictures where the sun is shining through the trees and yours is really spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
I pray you have a nice week end Renie.
Love & hugs,
Bev

Good Morning Ms. Renie,
The picture of the Tom Turkey is beautiful. Your zoom did a great job on getting that close to it too. I still haven't got the hang of taking my camera with me everywhere yet. LOL. I always seem to forget it. The Sunset pictures are just breathtaking and it does make the trees look like it is fall. I heard on t.v. or seen in the paper about they may not be able to have the Turkey Hunt right now because of all the water. We got quite a bit of rain here on Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. We were under a Severe Thunder Storm Warning around 9:15p.m. because of some Hail around Lake City. It never hailed here tho. I know it sure has turned alot colder now. We are under a Freeze Warning for tonight and into in the morning. There were even some Snow Flurries around yesterday. My Mom called me last night and she said she saw some yesterday. I never saw any because me and the girls didn't get out yesterday because it was so raw and cold outside. I did put up a new post yesterday, but I will probably wait till tomorrow and do another post. I am trying to catch up with everyone today because I didn't visit any yesterday. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Karen,

I'm just glad that weather is over for now, and hopefully no more storms like that. Now things need to dry out, although this last deluge wasn't quite as bad. I did hear on my weather radio that this area already received 75 percent of the rain we normally get in a year, in the first 3 and a half months! Thank you for coming by. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.

Love and Hugs,

Renie

Hi Pia,

Thank you! You are so sweet and kind. God bless you as well!

awesome pictures.I love to hear a spring thunder storm as long as its a mild one with no tornados.I use to live on a farm when I was a kid.and when storms move in Id run to the hay loft.I could watch the storm clouds move in.

Id have to sneak to do it,cause my granny would get real mad if she knew I was in the barn.she never said much about it till after we had a tornado in a town not too far from us.and after that she was scared of storm,s.but not me I still loved to see the clouds move n and hear the thunder in the distance.feel the wind on my face.Id sit there in the door of the hay loft and just watch till the rain made me shut the door.

glad you didnt have any tornados.they seem to be making their way around the USA in some places already.spring is a good time for them.the weather is ripe for it.all the cold air from the north and the warm hummid air from the south and your in for a ride.

stay safe my friend.God bless.
have fun with your son.

Beautiful pictures - I like the one of the tress in the east field the best - really pretty.

The tom turkey is gorgeous.

Have a good week, I'm taking this week off from blogging too, exam coming up on Thursday - hopefully by the end of class, the sun will be out and the cold wind will have gone away for a while!

Hi Leann,

It's always nice to hear from you! I enjoyed your comment about watching the storms from the barn. Yes, spring is tornado season, and I was fortunate in not getting anything too bad, although it seemed bad enough! The dogs would agree with me.

Thank you for your visit. I hope all is well in your world!

Dear Rene,

What a sweet, refreshing spot on the computer! I came across your site while looking for Thunderstorm pics, while living in dry, dry southern CA, transplanted, for now, from Indiana, where it rains too much!!

Take care, I snitched a copy of the Mary Englebright? looking pic of the girl swinging at the bottom of your page......for my Journal Notes, a bit too depressing, w/ long time unemployment.

so long, Bless you, PC
