The Greens of Spring

The beautiful palette of spring greens in early May is a feast for the eyes. Artists have painted these subtle, tender greens over the ages, poets have written poems about it, while I can only snap a few pictures of it, and gaze at it with deep appreciation, and much thankfulness. Spring is finally here in all her splendor!

This is a picture of some of the new lettuce in my little garden. Isn't it a pretty green? I have already enjoyed it as a salad with grape tomatoes, chopped red onions, and a vinaigrette dressing. Delicious! And the resident deer haven't found it yet!

The green of the iris leaves is darker, with some gray tones, adding to the green palette of the yard and field, nicely.

Speaking of deer, they have been enjoying the new, tender green grass in the field. That is a hickory tree, to their left, with it's yellowish-green leaves that are almost full size already.

Here, the greens of the trees to the northern edge of the field, display their tender new greens of early May, beautifully.

On top of the field to the east, where the woods begin, the trees are subtle green colors, tender greens, faint rose tints, chartreuse greens, all forming a canopy of colors that lift my mood with their beauty.

I read that the color green symbolizes life, nature, fertility , well being , and that grass green is the most restful color. Green also symbolizes balance, growth and harmony. And, of course, money! But that's another story.

I hope you can get out there and enjoy the tender greens of early May. By mid-May, they will turn to the darker, more robust green, offering us shade from the hot sun.

Thank you for reading. Have a wonderful weekend!

Everything around here is a beautiful green color. So vibrant and lush. I enjoy this time of year. Plus I don't have to bundle up to go feed or ride. Hope you and yours have a blessed day.

We are enjoying the beautiful green colors here as well, with all the nice rains we have gotten. Ive been sitting out in the yard in my swing every evening when I get home from work just relaxing.

Renie,

Your yard and the area around it is so beautiful. I envy you the greens. Here it is not so green yet, but it is coming. Definitely something to look forward to.

Take care and have a great weekend, my friend.

Renie,

That is the same way it looks in my area. Everything is a light green - except for the oak trees - they are always dark green. And look at how the deer turn to look your way...:)

My Japanese Anne Quill Oak is doing well this year, and the lillies and roses are about ready to bloom - the irises are a little late - but I'm happy now that it is finally spring.

What fantastic photos, Renie! I have really enjoyed this post! I LOVE fresh garden veggies in a salad. There's nothing like it in the world!

Thanks so much for sharing the Springtime greenery in your corner of the world. It's lovely and beautiful, just like you!

Your lettuce looks delicious. We don't put out a garden any longer. I use to can green beans, tomatoes, corn, red beets and made my own pickles. But haven't done that for eears. It was a lot of hard work, but so nice to see all the jars sitting on the pantry shelves waiting to be used when winter came. It's raining here, started late this afternoon. Now it's supper/dinner time, and since I mowed the yard this afternoon, I may fix Abe some bacon and eggs for his supper. To tired to run through a drive through to pick something up. Have a wonderful week-end.

Beemoosie said...

We are not quite as far along as you, but it is definately getting greener here too! If it stays dry this weekend, the yard will get mowed. The perennials are popping up their baby shoots, and the bulbs have mostly all bloomed. It sure feels good...

Hi Patty,

I used to have a large garden as well. Now, it's just some lettuce, a few tomatoes, and some zucchini and cucumbers. And I used to can, like you, but no longer do that either. I do freeze my excess zucchini though.

Greg was supposed to cut the grass yesterday, but we ended up with torrential rains all morning, and when it stopped raining, everything was too wet. So we went to lunch, and then he took me shopping, and while I shopped, he had the oil changed on my car and had some new tires put on it. Today is sunny and cooler, so it will be a better day for mowing the lawn.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I wish I had known about the yard sale the other day. Greg and I have been at the cabin cleaning it and stuff. Tomorrow, I go pick up Eileen. Maybe the yard sale will still be on.

Yes, that's a beautiful weeping willow. And you look lovely, standing by it.

Mountain Mama said...

Renie your lettuce looks beautiful I do wish I could grow it here but I have a horrible problem with slugs and as you may know, they love lettuce.
Your field and trees are so gorgeous. The trees around here are just beginning to leaf out, but most are still looking pretty naked. However the weeping willows are really spectacular right now and there are several all around me, including one in my own yard. Every window I look out I can see one.
In fact I am in the process of writing a story for my great grandchildren, called 'The Enchanted Willow', which is a story about a willow tree my mother grew from a twig many years ago. I am writing the story as a fairy tale, with a princess and a castle, etc. The kids all love that.
Have a lovely Sunday dear, and enjoy that delicious lettuce before the deer find it.
Blessings!

Good Morning Ms. Renie,
I sure hope you survived Friday with all the storms and tornadoes close by. A couple of the tornadoes was close to here, but nothing ever got here where we live tho. I love the lettuce in your garden. I remember years ago when my parents would have a garden, they would have lettuce and when it was ready, my Mom would put it in some hot grease with some green onions and wilt it. You talk about something good. LOL. I haven't had anything like that in years now. What all do you plant in your garden? I always loves having fresh tomatoes out of the garden as well. Nothing better than a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich to fill you up. LOL. Those were the days. The deer and the trees are beautiful as well as well as your irises. You really have a beautiful place there where you live and I know you enjoy everything around you. I do enjoy seeing all the pictures you share with us from your neck of the woods. I have put up a new post this morning and I hope you will drop by sometime today or this evening. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Hi Renie,
Your green lettuce looks so tempting. I've never been able to make it grow here, so I suspect the climate isn't right.
All your green photos are lovely and certainly do say "spring"

Hey Ann,

You have beautiful irises at your place! And I'm sure it's beautiful there as well. Since you're more south, it's probably greener than here!

Thanks for the visit.

Hi Bev,

We don't have any slugs around here. I don't know why that is. I remember them in Ohio. Used to pour salt on them and they'd melt!

I love weeping willows as well, but don't have one here. I was just looking at one for sale at a gardening center, but I am just afraid a young tree like that would be eaten by the deer. Michele's yard has a beautiful one, and it's fenced there, so deer can't get to it.

The story you are writing for your grandchildren sounds charming. I'm sure they will love it. I used to write stories for my children, when they were young, but have not written one for my grandchildren. They do enjoy reading my stories in Chicken Soup, though. :-)

Thank you for coming by, dear Bev. It's always a pleasure to read your comments.

Blessings to you as well!

Dear Merle,

I'm a blonde, but hopefully not dumb. But I do enjoy the blond jokes!

I'm glad you don't get snow. We get a few snow falls, but usually not a whole lot, and it's usually gone within a couple of days. But it gets mighty cold here. This past winter seemed like it would never end. So I am enjoying spring, which is pleasant and not real hot yet. But we do get very hot weather. Usually in July and August.

Thank you for coming by, dear Merle. I always look forward to your comments. Have a wonderful week, my friend.

The story behind the big CUP. Courtney sent me the black and white one for my Birthday...nice size cup holds a cup and half of coffee...So just for fun my daughter found this BIG cup and saucer planter...Oh yes, by now you have guessed They (my daughter 37 & Courtney 27) are now competing on who can buy me the big and best presents...It's all in fun. They could be real Sisters the way they act...They never meet each other either. In the three yrs Courtney and I have got to know each other, she's just become a member of the family.

I hope I get some beautiful pictures in Kentucky to post on my blog...
